Five Policemen Killed in Sadiqabad Checkpoint Attack

Five personnel of Punjab’s Elite Force were martyred and two others critically injured in a violent assault on a police checkpoint in the Mahi Chowk area of Sadiqabad early Friday morning. The attackers, believed to be heavily armed dacoits from the nearby Katcha region, launched the ambush using advanced weapons, reportedly including rocket launchers.

According to a police spokesperson, the Shekhani Police checkpoint came under heavy fire from over a dozen assailants. The attackers struck during the early hours of the day, resulting in the immediate deaths of five officers. The martyred officers were identified as Muhammad Irfan, Muhammad Saleem, Nakheel, Constable Khalil, and Ghazanfar. Two others sustained serious injuries and were transported to Shaikh Zayed Hospital for emergency treatment.

Law enforcement agencies responded swiftly following the attack. District Police Officer Irfan Ali Samoun arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. A large number of police personnel were deployed to secure the area and begin a counter-operation.

Initial reports suggest the attackers fled towards the forested Katcha region after the assault. A major search operation is now underway in the surrounding area. Police have deployed armored vehicles and modern weaponry to locate and apprehend the perpetrators.

To prevent further escape attempts, security has been intensified across the region. Law enforcement officials have sealed roads leading toward the Katcha belt and reinforced nearby checkpoints.

During the exchange of fire, one of the attackers was reportedly killed, although his identity has not yet been confirmed. The rest of the group managed to retreat into the thick riverine terrain. Authorities have vowed to continue the search operation until all individuals involved are brought to justice.

Punjab’s Inspector General of Police expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the five officers and paid tribute to their courage. He stated that the entire police force stands with the families of the fallen and assured the public that the attackers will be held accountable.

Funeral prayers for the martyred officers were held at the Sadiq Shaheed Police Lines. The ceremony was attended by senior police officials, family members, and local community leaders.

Police sources believe the suspects are linked to criminal gangs operating within the Katcha area, a region long associated with violent dacoit activity. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to restoring security and dismantling criminal networks operating in remote regions of southern Punjab.
