Karachi Children Shine in NAPA Jungle Book Show

A month-long summer camp for children, organized by the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA), concluded in Karachi over the weekend with a vibrant closing ceremony celebrating young talent in music and theatre.

The event, held at NAPA’s basement theatre, featured a theatrical adaptation of The Jungle Book. All 13 participants of the camp took to the stage, portraying well-loved characters such as Mowgli, Bagheera, and Sher Khan. The play was adapted by Faizan Chawla and directed by Safia Bhaleesha, capturing the audience’s attention with its engaging performances and youthful energy.

The programme also included a musical segment. Under the guidance of NAPA’s music instructor Julian Qaiser, the children performed five melodic pieces that showcased their progress over the past month. Aehyam Tariq, a promising student of the academy, accompanied them on piano and later delivered a solo performance that earned warm applause from the crowd.

Families, friends, and supporters filled the auditorium, cheering and applauding throughout the performances. The atmosphere was one of celebration and encouragement, as the audience witnessed the artistic growth and confidence of the young participants.

According to organisers, the summer camp aimed to develop children’s self-confidence, communication skills, and creative expression through a combination of theatre, music, and dance. They highlighted the importance of such initiatives in helping children learn in a fun and engaging environment while nurturing their natural talents.

The event concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, led by NAPA’s Chief Operating Officer, Sameeta Ahmed. She commended the children for their hard work and dedication, and also thanked the parents and guardians for their continued support.

Designed and coordinated by Imran Sherwani, the camp is part of NAPA’s broader efforts to promote performing arts at the grassroots level across Pakistan. Organizers expressed hope that similar programmers would continue to inspire and cultivate young artists in the years to come.
