Police File Cases Against PTI Protesters in Pakistan

Lahore / Karachi, Police have launched a large-scale crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers following protests held on August 5 in Lahore and Karachi, registering multiple cases and arresting hundreds across the country.

Lahore: 10 FIRs, 129 Arrests

In Lahore, authorities filed ten First Information Reports (FIRs) at police stations in Model Town, Liaquatabad, Kot Lakhpat, Chuhang, Nawab Town, and Millat Park.

The FIRs include charges of sedition, interference in official duties, theft, and unlawful assembly. Police said protesters blocked roads, clashed with officers, and caused public disruption during the rally.

A total of 129 individuals were arrested, 92 of whom had reportedly travelled from other cities to join the demonstration. Authorities confirmed that those arrested are being processed through the legal system and will be presented before courts.

Nationwide Crackdown: Over 900 Detained

In a wider crackdown spanning the past three days, more than 900 PTI supporters have been detained nationwide. Police reported that over 200 arrests were made during targeted raids. Many of those detained on August 3 and 4 have since been released on bail.

FIRs allege that some protesters attacked police, tore uniforms, and shouted anti-government slogans. Police say further legal action is ongoing.

Karachi: Senior Leaders Among the Accused

In Karachi, police registered a case at PIB Colony Police Station against eight senior PTI figures and over 500 unidentified participants.

The case followed a protest near University Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, where rally participants were accused of rioting, vandalism, and disturbing public order.

The rally was led by prominent PTI members including:

An estimated 500 to 600 supporters took part in the demonstration, according to police.
