ISLAMABAD, The National Assembly of Pakistan passed multiple resolutions on Wednesday, including a unanimous condemnation of so-called honour killings, calling for decisive national action against these unlawful acts.

The resolution, presented by Shahida Rehmani, stressed a zero-tolerance policy toward honour-based violence and called for the creation of an interprovincial task force. The task force would coordinate efforts across provinces to address and prevent such crimes, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable and that victims receive justice.

In a separate resolution, lawmakers reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The motion, introduced by PPP legislator Shazia Marri, voiced serious concern over Israel’s continued military actions, citing the loss of civilian lives and the destruction of vital infrastructure.

The National Assembly strongly denounced Israel’s statements and actions suggesting plans to permanently occupy Gaza, displace its population, and erase its identity. The resolution further condemned the use of starvation, siege tactics, and collective punishment—labeling these as violations of international law and war crimes.

Pakistan’s lawmakers urged the United Nations and global community to take urgent action to end the hostilities in Gaza. They called for protecting civilians, ensuring the unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid, and holding the occupying power accountable for any crimes against humanity. The resolution also encouraged Pakistan’s government to continue advocating for the Palestinian cause at international platforms including the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

In addition to these resolutions, the House addressed rising concerns about online abuse and privacy violations. A motion moved by Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar of the PML-N called for strengthened legislation to punish unauthorized video recordings, cyber harassment, and digital defamation.

The resolution emphasized the need to enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies, particularly in digital forensic capabilities, to investigate such offenses effectively. It also recommended public education campaigns on digital rights and safe reporting methods, alongside the establishment of dedicated complaint desks in police stations.

To foster a long-term solution, the Assembly advised introducing educational content on digital ethics, privacy, and anti-harassment laws in schools and universities across the country.

The combined actions reflect the Assembly’s commitment to addressing serious social issues at both the national and international levels, while reinforcing Pakistan’s legal and moral positions.
