A 22-year-old man was shot dead in Karachi’s Keamari district after marrying against the wishes of his in-laws. Police say the attack, which took place in Machhar Colony, was carried out by the bride’s relatives.

According to authorities, the incident occurred near Noor Salam Chowk when unidentified assailants broke into the victim’s home. The victim, identified as Ahmed, son of Noor Hakeem, was asleep when the attackers opened fire, hitting him with a single bullet. Hearing the gunshots, Ahmed’s father rushed from another room and saw the suspects fleeing.

Ahmed was taken to Civil Hospital Karachi in critical condition but died during treatment. Police confirmed that the bride, who was in the house at the time, was unharmed.

Docks Police Station duty officer Waseem stated that Ahmed and his father worked together in local television and internet cable services. He added that the couple had been married for only three months and that the bride’s family strongly disapproved of the marriage.

Ahmed’s father has lodged a case against four close relatives of the bride, naming them as suspects in the murder. Police have arrested one accused, identified as Asghar, while raids are under way to apprehend the remaining three.

Following the killing, the victim’s family, relatives, and neighbours staged a protest at Jinnah Bridge. They placed Ahmed’s body on the road and demanded the immediate arrest of all the suspects. The demonstration caused major traffic disruptions on Netty Jetty Road, Mauripur Road, and surrounding areas, creating long tailbacks and difficulties for commuters.

Police were eventually able to disperse the protesters and restore the traffic flow after several hours. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are expected.

This incident is the latest in a series of cases in which individuals in Karachi have been targeted over love marriages that were not accepted by family members. Police have urged citizens to resolve disputes through legal channels and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
