Pakistan and Qatar have committed to expanding their partnership in environmental sustainability and green investments, focusing on climate action and economic growth.

On August 8, 2025, Pakistan and Qatar solidified their commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation in environmental sustainability and green investments during a high-level meeting in Islamabad. According to The Nation, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik met with Qatar’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Ali Mubarak Ali Essa Al-Khater, to discuss collaborative efforts ahead of global climate talks in Geneva. The discussions centered on a legally binding international treaty to combat plastic pollution, with Malik emphasizing that global environmental agreements must prioritize accessibility, affordability, and sustainability for developing nations like Pakistan. He stressed that such agreements should reflect the socio-economic realities of citizens, ensuring their rights and livelihoods are protected.

Dr. Malik unveiled Pakistan’s Green Startups Initiative, a program designed to empower young entrepreneurs to launch eco-friendly businesses and connect them with international investors. As reported by Arab News, this initiative aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision for sustainable development and aims to create green jobs while promoting economic growth. The minister highlighted the program’s potential to gain global traction through partnerships with foreign governments and organizations, positioning Pakistan as a hub for sustainable innovation. The Qatari ambassador expressed enthusiasm for expanding cooperation beyond climate action to include trade and investment, noting Pakistan’s valued security support during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which he said earned the country a special place among Qataris.

The meeting, attended by officials from Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscored both nations’ dedication to strengthening ties in environmental and economic domains. UrduPoint reported that the discussions also explored people-to-people exchanges to foster closer bilateral relations. This partnership builds on Pakistan’s broader strategy to address climate challenges, as evidenced by its recent agreement with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) at COP29 in Baku to mobilize green finance, according to Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination. By aligning with Qatar, Pakistan aims to leverage international expertise and investment to advance its environmental goals and bolster economic resilience.
