Unidentified armed militants carried out two separate bomb attacks in Lower South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Sunday, destroying a government school and a bridge. Both incidents occurred within hours of each other, prompting police investigations.

In the first incident, explosives were used to demolish a government high school in the Azam Warsak area. Local sources said the blast caused extensive damage to the school building and created panic among nearby residents. The day before the attack, an organization calling itself “Fidayan-e-Islam” reportedly issued written threats to students. According to the accounts, pamphlets had been distributed warning schools to expel certain students, though the reason for the warning was not stated in the material.

Police reports indicate that on Saturday night, unidentified attackers planted an improvised explosive device (IED) inside the school premises. The device detonated with a loud explosion, destroying the structure. The force of the blast was heard across the surrounding area, and residents reported seeing debris scattered over a wide distance.

Following the incident, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and began an investigation to identify those responsible. Authorities have not yet released further details about the suspects or the possible motive behind the attack.

In a separate event on the same day, a small bridge on Azam Zalai Road was completely destroyed by another blast. Police sources stated that the attackers planted an IED beneath the bridge and detonated it remotely. The explosion caused the bridge to collapse, disrupting travel in the area. Officials confirmed that the structure was rendered unusable and would require complete rebuilding before it could be reopened for traffic.

According to police, this was the fourth incident in the past three days in which bridges in Lower South Waziristan have been targeted with explosives. Authorities have recorded each case and are treating them as linked events. All four attacks involved the use of IEDs, and all were carried out by unidentified individuals.

Local officials have not reported any casualties in either of Sunday’s incidents, but both attacks caused significant property damage. The destruction of the school has interrupted classes for students in the area, while the loss of the bridge has hindered transport and movement for residents who relied on it for daily travel.

Police investigations into both incidents are ongoing. Authorities have urged the public to provide any information that may assist in identifying the attackers.
