Angel Reese Earns Top WNBA Honor After Surprising All-Star Snub

Angel Reese is proving she belongs among the WNBA’s best. On Tuesday, the Chicago Sky forward was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week, recognizing her outstanding performances in Week 6 of the season. However, her success came just days after she was surprisingly left out of the All-Star Game starting lineup, sparking strong reactions from fans and analysts.

Reese delivered dominant numbers during the past week, averaging 19.7 points, 17.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. She leads the entire league in rebounding with 12.6 boards per game and is known for her steady double-doubles. Even as the Sky holds a 4–10 record, Reese’s consistency has made her one of the season’s standout players.

Despite her impact, Reese did not secure a spot among the 10 All-Star starters. The final selection combines fan votes (50%), media votes (25%), and player votes (25%). Although she ranked fifth among frontcourt players in fan voting, the combined results pushed her out of the top positions. Instead, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark, who led all players with over 1.2 million votes, was chosen as a team captain. Other starters include Paige Bueckers, A’ja Wilson, Sabrina Ionescu, and Breanna Stewart.

Many fans questioned how Reese could be left out when she recently became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 600 points and 600 rebounds in one season. She also made headlines for recording four straight games with at least 15 rebounds, something never done before. In a recent game against the Sparks, Reese scored 24 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and added 7 assists, leading the Sky to a much-needed win.

Reese has remained focused despite the controversy.

There is still hope she will be part of the All-Star Game. On July 6, league coaches will announce the reserve players, offering Reese another chance to be recognized among the WNBA’s elite.
