Sindh Police Create Special Team to Probe Humaira Asghar’s Death

The Sindh Police have formed a six-member special investigation team to probe the mysterious death of actor and model Humaira Asghar Ali, whose decomposed body was found in her Karachi apartment on July 8, 2025. Led by Acting Superintendent of Police (SP) Clifton Imran Ali Jagrani, the team aims to determine whether her death was natural, accidental, suicidal, or a case of foul play. This article explores the investigation, the circumstances of her death, and the broader questions it raises about societal oversight.

Humaira, aged 32, was discovered in her Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase VI flat after a court-ordered eviction due to unpaid rent since 2024. The body, in an advanced state of decomposition, was estimated to be eight to ten months old, with police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed noting that the cause of death remains unclear due to the body’s condition, as reported by Dawn. The team, including Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Defence Aurangzeb Khattak and Gizri Station House Officer (SHO) Muhammad Farooq, has accessed data from Humaira’s electronic devices, uncovering clues from her phones, tablet, and laptop via passwords found in her diary, according to Geo News.

Initial reports suggested Humaira’s family refused to claim her body, prompting outrage and offers from the Sindh Culture Department and Governor Kamran Tessori to arrange her burial. However, her brother Naveed Asghar, who traveled from Lahore, denied these claims, stating, “We were coordinating with police and Chhipa for three days,” and criticized media for misrepresenting the family, per The Express Tribune. He questioned the landlord’s inaction and the absence of security cameras, raising concerns about accountability. The investigation has reviewed Humaira’s bank records and small contact list, indicating her isolated lifestyle.

Humaira, known for her roles in Jalaibee and Tamasha Ghar, lived alone for seven years, her death unnoticed until the eviction. This tragedy highlights gaps in community oversight and the vulnerabilities of those living independently. As the team submits daily reports to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Mahzoor Ali, Pakistan awaits answers, hoping for justice and clarity in a case that has shaken the nation.
