Gunshot in Orangi: Police Doubt Woman’s Suicide Claim

A 40-year-old woman was found dead from a gunshot wound in a Sector 10 home in Orangi Town, Karachi, under suspicious circumstances. While initial reports suggested suicide, investigators are probing potential foul play due to inconsistencies in the case.

Victim’s Background and Scene of the Incident

The deceased, identified as Tasleem Bibi, was discovered in an upstairs room of her mother’s residence. Her body was later shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for an autopsy. Sources revealed that Bibi had been married three times, divorcing each of her husbands, and had two daughters from her first marriage. She was reportedly visiting her mother’s house at the time of the incident.

Police Raise Questions Over Suicide Claim

Station House Officer (SHO) Meraj Anwar of Mominabad Police Station stated that while the scene initially appeared to be a suicide, key details did not add up. The pistol found near the body was registered to Bibi’s brother, Sultan, raising questions about how she obtained it. Additionally, two of her sisters-in-law were present in the house at the time and claimed that Bibi had shot herself.

However, investigators noted a critical inconsistency: the gunshot wound was on the left side of her head, whereas most self-inflicted injuries occur on the right side for right-handed individuals. This anomaly has led police to consider homicide as a possible explanation.

Ongoing Investigation

Forensic teams collected evidence, including the spent bullet casing, for ballistic analysis. SHO Anwar confirmed that the case is being investigated from multiple angles, including murder, given the unusual circumstances. No arrests have been made yet, but authorities are questioning family members and others connected to the victim.

Community Reaction and Broader Concerns

Residents expressed shock over the incident, with some questioning whether domestic disputes may have played a role. Cases of violence against women, whether suicide or homicide, remain a troubling issue in Pakistan, often complicated by delayed investigations and societal pressures.

Police have assured the public that they are pursuing all leads and will release further details once forensic reports are complete. For now, the case remains shrouded in mystery, leaving many to wonder whether justice will be served.
