Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will travel to the United States next week to lead Pakistan’s participation in high-level United Nations Security Council (UNSC) events, leveraging the country’s current presidency to advance its global influence. From New York to Washington, Dar’s visit will focus on critical discussions, including a conference on Palestine, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to principled diplomacy and strategic partnerships.

Pakistan’s presidency of the UNSC in July 2025, its first in over a decade, offers a platform to shape global security discourse. Dar will chair an open debate titled “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes,” emphasizing diplomacy over conflict. He will also lead a briefing to strengthen ties between the United Nations (UN) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). “This presidency reflects Pakistan’s resolve to promote peace and cooperation,” a Foreign Office spokesperson told The Express Tribune, highlighting Dar’s role in amplifying Pakistan’s voice.

In New York, Dar will attend a rescheduled UN conference on July 28-29, addressing the “Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of Two-State Solution.” Postponed due to Middle East tensions, the event aligns with Pakistan’s longstanding support for Palestinian rights, a stance that resonates with conservative values of sovereignty and justice. Dar’s bilateral meetings with UN officials and foreign ministers will further Pakistan’s advocacy for stability in Gaza and beyond.

In Washington, Dar’s agenda includes undisclosed but “certain” engagements, likely tied to ongoing U.S.-Pakistan trade discussions to avert a 29% tariff, as noted in recent reports by Business Recorder. These talks underscore Pakistan’s pragmatic approach to securing economic stability through robust alliances. For centre-right audiences, Dar’s visit signals Pakistan’s assertive foreign policy, balancing national interests with global responsibilities. By leading UNSC events and strengthening U.S. ties, Dar aims to position Pakistan as a pivotal player in a volatile world, championing peace, economic resilience, and regional influence.
