Sindh High Court Slams Police on Karachi Drug Crisis

The Sindh High Court has strongly criticized local law enforcement agencies for their failure to control the rising drug problem in Karachi, urging immediate and effective measures.

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued a serious warning to law enforcement authorities over their handling of Karachi’s deepening drug problem. In a recent hearing, the court expressed strong dissatisfaction with the performance of the police and other agencies, saying their failure to control drug-related activities has created a major threat to society, especially for the city’s youth.

The court was responding to reports and complaints highlighting the growing presence of illegal drugs across various neighborhoods in Karachi. Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, who presided over the hearing, noted that the situation was rapidly getting out of control. He pointed out that despite repeated orders and discussions in previous sessions, police efforts remain ineffective and poorly coordinated.

Justice Panhwar criticized the lack of accountability and coordination among relevant departments. He questioned why no solid progress had been made despite the availability of intelligence and the presence of various anti-narcotics units. The court emphasized that drugs are not just a law enforcement issue but a major social and public health concern.

The Sindh High Court directed top police officials to take immediate and visible action. It also asked for a detailed report on drug-related arrests, recovery of narcotics, and progress on shutting down drug dens in the city. The judges noted that without proper oversight, Karachi’s youth are being pushed into addiction and criminal activities.
