Sharif Pledges Safety for Chinese Nationals in Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Chinese citizens working in the country, especially those involved in key development and infrastructure projects.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has assured the Chinese government that Pakistan remains fully committed to protecting Chinese citizens working across the country, particularly those involved in major infrastructure and development projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). His statement comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen Pakistan-China relations and enhance security for foreign nationals contributing to Pakistan’s economic growth.

In a recent high-level meeting with Chinese officials and delegates, Prime Minister Sharif underlined that the safety of Chinese workers is a top priority for his administration. He emphasized that the government will continue to improve security protocols and take every necessary measure to ensure a safe working environment.

Sharif acknowledged the critical role Chinese professionals play in Pakistan’s development, especially through projects aligned with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. CPEC, a flagship initiative under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, involves extensive investment in Pakistan’s transport, energy, and industrial sectors. It has created thousands of jobs and supported infrastructure development across the country.

The Prime Minister said that the friendship between China and Pakistan is rooted in mutual respect and strategic cooperation. “China is our time-tested friend,” he stated, adding that protecting Chinese citizens in Pakistan is not just a security issue but a matter of national importance.

Sharif also directed the concerned authorities to tighten security around Chinese missions, companies, and project sites, and ensure close coordination between federal and provincial law enforcement agencies. He emphasized that the government will not tolerate any negligence in this regard.
