Islamabad: Opposition Schedules APC for July 31

An alliance of opposition parties in Pakistan, known as Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ain Pakistan (TTAP), has announced a two-day All Parties Conference (APC) to be held in Islamabad on July 31 and August 1. The conference is part of the alliance’s broader campaign to uphold the supremacy of the Constitution and strengthen democratic governance across the country.

The announcement was made during a press conference by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, who heads both TTAP and the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP). He was joined by other senior leaders, including PTI’s Salman Akram Raja, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, and Babar Awan. Achakzai stated that the APC would bring together political stakeholders and civil society members, and that invitations would be extended to representatives from state institutions.

“We will hold an APC and invite people from state institutions as well. We will step out for the sake of this country. Anyone who feels wronged or sidelined, we will stand with them,” Achakzai said. He emphasized that the alliance is not the result of any institutional pressure and that it seeks real, lasting change through constitutional means.

The alliance has identified several key goals: the establishment of a neutral election commission, a parliament that exercises real authority, and full compliance with constitutional principles. TTAP leaders noted that efforts to strengthen democracy require broad consensus and the participation of all segments of society.

Achakzai reiterated that the initiative is not political theater but a serious effort to restore constitutional order and resist external manipulation. The alliance has positioned itself as a force committed to the people’s mandate and national sovereignty.

The APC is expected to draw various political and civil actors, although a complete list of participants has not yet been released. TTAP leaders also announced plans for a peaceful nationwide protest on August 5, further signaling their intention to increase pressure on the current administration.

In the lead-up to the APC, political tensions in Islamabad remain high. Public discourse is increasingly focused on electoral integrity, constitutional rule, and institutional accountability. If successful, the conference could serve as a catalyst for coordinated political reform and reinforce the opposition’s presence in shaping the national agenda.
