Parvez Elahi Urges Political Dialogue in Pakistan

Former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has underscored the importance of initiating political dialogue among all stakeholders in Pakistan, describing it as a collective responsibility of both political parties and state institutions. He emphasized that genuine dialogue is essential for fostering national unity and ensuring political stability.

Elahi made these remarks on Thursday while speaking to reporters after visiting the residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar in Lahore. He had come to offer condolences on the passing of Azhar’s father, former Punjab governor Mian Muhammad Azhar. The late political figure was widely respected for his contributions to public service and national politics.

Paying tribute to Mian Azhar, Elahi described him as a principled and dedicated leader. He recalled their personal friendship, which spanned over three decades, and highlighted the late governor’s commitment to Pakistan’s progress. “Mian Azhar served the country with honesty and dignity. His services will always be remembered,” Elahi stated.

During the media interaction, Elahi reiterated his belief that political dialogue is necessary to address Pakistan’s ongoing challenges. He noted that the responsibility to create space for such dialogue does not rest solely on political actors. Instead, he urged all state institutions to recognize their constitutional duties and contribute to building an atmosphere conducive to reconciliation.

“All institutions should play their role for the country’s betterment,” he said. “Unity among political forces and cooperation from constitutional bodies are vital for overcoming the current crisis.”

Elahi’s remarks come amid heightened political uncertainty and economic challenges in Pakistan. His call for a more inclusive approach to national decision-making appears to reflect a growing sentiment within some political circles that institutional cooperation is key to resolving governance issues.

Hammad Azhar briefly addressed the media, expressing his gratitude for Elahi’s visit and support during a time of mourning. He acknowledged the longstanding friendship between his late father and Elahi, but did not elaborate on political matters during the gathering.

The statement by Parvez Elahi is seen as part of a broader narrative within PTI and other political factions that advocate for restoring political balance through constructive dialogue and institutional alignment, particularly in light of Pakistan’s ongoing democratic and economic concerns.
