Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has highlighted Pakistan’s recent economic recovery and diplomatic advancements, signaling a renewed international presence for the country. Speaking on July 26, 2025, to the Pakistani diaspora at the Consulate General in New York, Dar pointed to a significant reduction in inflation, which fell from 40% to 2.4% by January 2025, as a key indicator of economic stabilization.

Dar credited this progress to the leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government and noted the restoration of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to Europe and the United Kingdom, with plans to resume services to New York. These developments, alongside the successful completion of an International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, have helped bolster investor confidence. On the diplomatic front, Dar cited Pakistan’s recent presidency of the United Nations Security Council, supported by 182 countries, and the unanimous adoption of a resolution on peaceful dispute resolution as milestones enhancing the country’s global standing.

Dar also reported productive discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, describing the meeting as positive and focused on important global and regional issues. He expressed optimism about strengthening ties with the United States and emphasized ongoing outreach to Afghanistan to promote trade and rail connectivity, while maintaining that Afghan territory must not be used for terrorist activities. Additionally, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts regarding the case of Aafia Siddiqui.

Despite these encouraging signs, experts caution that Pakistan faces ongoing challenges. While the sharp decline in inflation marks an important achievement, broader structural reforms are needed to sustain economic growth amid global supply chain disruptions and regional security concerns. The country’s recent diplomatic gains offer valuable momentum, but translating this into durable economic stability and international respect will require sustained effort and policy continuity.

Pakistan’s path forward involves building on these achievements to ensure long-term prosperity and a secure, respected position on the world stage.
