In a shocking act of violence near Qainchi Pull Gujarwah in Nawabshah, six members of the Bhungwar community were fatally ambushed on Thursday morning. The victims, traveling to a local court hearing related to a decade-old murder case, were attacked while riding motorcycles, resulting in immediate fatalities.

According to local police reports, the victims, Shehbaz, Taj, Habdar, and Rajab Ali, all sons of Ghulam Mustafa Bhungwar, as well as Qurban Ali and Farman Ali, sons of Shah Ali Bhungwar, were shot dead on the spot by armed assailants who quickly fled the scene. The deceased hailed from Goth Ishaq Bhungwar, a village in the area. The attack appears to be rooted in a longstanding feud tied to a 2010 murder case, in which the victims had been accused of killing three men, including the father of the alleged prime suspect, Ismail Bhungwar.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shabbir Sethar confirmed that seven suspects, including Ismail Bhungwar, have been detained in connection with the murders. Following the arrests, law enforcement officials took the rare step of demolishing the suspects’ homes as a punitive measure, signaling a firm stance against such brazen violence. Investigations remain ongoing, and a formal case has been registered.

The victims had been on their way to a court hearing concerning the old case, during which they were targeted. This brutal attack highlights the dangers of unresolved tribal and familial disputes that continue to destabilize the region.

Funerals were held in Goth Ishaq Bhungwar, drawing hundreds of mourners and local leaders, including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Javed Chaudhry and PPP district president Saleem Zardari. Their presence underscored the community’s grief and the broader call for justice.

While PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed deep condolences, the Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, promptly demanded a report from the provincial police chief, emphasizing the urgent need for accountability. He instructed authorities to ensure those responsible face swift justice.

This tragic incident further exposes the ongoing law and order challenges that plague parts of Sindh province, underscoring the need for stronger security measures and more effective conflict resolution mechanisms. The government’s response, while measured, must prioritize protecting citizens from such senseless violence and ending the cycle of retribution that fuels these deadly confrontations.
