Indian Army Chief Sends Strong Warning to Pakistan

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi issued a firm warning to Pakistan, stating that supporters of terrorism, whether state or non-state actors, will face decisive action. His remarks were made during the commemoration of Kargil Vijay Diwas, which marked the 26th anniversary of India’s 1999 military victory in the Kargil conflict.

General Dwivedi highlighted Operation Sindoor, a series of precision strikes reportedly conducted on May 6 and 7, targeting nine terror-linked sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The operation, according to the Army Chief, was a direct response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

“This time, we didn’t just mourn the Pahalgam attack, we responded with strength and determination,” Dwivedi said, emphasizing that no civilian casualties occurred during the operation. He described the strikes as a continuation of India’s doctrine of direct response to terrorism, building on the legacy of 1999’s Operation Vijay.

He added that the Indian Armed Forces, including the Army, Air Force, and Navy, operated in full coordination to thwart Pakistan’s attempted retaliatory actions. “The drones and missiles launched by Pakistan could not breach our layered defenses,” he said, crediting inter-service integration and rapid response capability.

General Dwivedi also paid tribute to the soldiers who died in the 1999 Kargil conflict, saying that their sacrifice was honored through modern military readiness and assertive action. “The victory in Kargil was about sovereignty. Operation Sindoor reinforces that message in today’s context.”

Outlining India’s military modernization plans, he introduced new combat formations, including ‘Rudra’ brigades, ‘Bhairav’ light commando battalions, and ‘Shaktibaan’ artillery regiments, as well as drone-capable infantry units and indigenous air defense systems.

Beyond national security, he also acknowledged the Indian Army’s role in nation-building, citing its contributions to border infrastructure, economic development, and promotion of tourism. He reaffirmed the military’s support for the government’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” development vision.

General Dwivedi’s remarks represent one of the strongest recent public statements from Indian military leadership on cross-border terrorism. The Pakistani government has not yet issued an official response regarding the strikes or the Army Chief’s claims.
