Ishaq Dar Urges Full Recognition of Palestine

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has called for the universal recognition of a sovereign Palestinian state and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Speaking at a high-level summit at the United Nations (UN) in New York, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to the two-state solution and demanded full membership for Palestine at the UN. The summit was co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France and focused on advancing peace in the Middle East.

Dar’s remarks come amid ongoing violence in Gaza and mounting international calls for a political resolution to the conflict. Stressing the urgency of halting hostilities, he urged global powers to uphold their moral and legal obligations by supporting a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace. Dar reiterated that the only viable path forward remains the two-state solution, with pre-1967 borders and East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine. His comments reflect a growing frustration among Muslim-majority countries over perceived international inaction on the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The UN summit aimed to revive diplomatic momentum toward the two-state framework, which envisions peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine. Pakistan has consistently voiced support for this model at international forums. Dar’s call for Palestine’s full membership underlines Islamabad’s diplomatic posture that a peaceful Middle East cannot be achieved without recognising Palestinian statehood. He noted that the continuation of violence and displacement would only fuel regional instability. The participation of major global players at the summit underscores a renewed interest in finding common ground, even as geopolitical divisions persist.

In an era of complex international relations, Pakistan’s appeal adds weight to the global discourse on Middle East peace. While Islamabad’s foreign policy has long prioritised the Palestinian cause, Dar’s speech signals a firmer stance in pressing for meaningful action. The push for full UN membership, beyond being symbolic, highlights the demand for equality and dignity for the Palestinian people on the world stage. As more nations voice similar sentiments, the momentum for change may yet translate into diplomatic progress. A credible peace process requires not just statements, but sustained multilateral efforts to restore hope and ensure accountability in one of the world’s most enduring conflicts.
