The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced an ambitious plan to build 25 cricket grounds and 25 football grounds across Islamabad, alongside multiple modern sports complexes in various sectors. The initiative is aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and providing improved recreational facilities for residents, particularly the youth.

Speaking to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) on Saturday, a CDA spokesperson said the project was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, at the CDA Headquarters.

Randhawa stated that the development reflects the authority’s commitment to enhancing public amenities and ensuring residents have access to quality sports infrastructure. “These grounds and complexes will be state-of-the-art, ensuring Islamabad’s residents benefit from modern, accessible sports facilities,” he said.

The project is part of a broader urban development agenda that also includes upgrading major roads, constructing new underpasses to improve traffic flow, restoring green spaces, improving park lighting, and installing modern streetlights across the capital.

According to the CDA, the sports grounds will be strategically placed across different sectors so that all communities can benefit. In addition to new facilities, existing cricket and football grounds will be upgraded. The plan also includes installing paddle courts, enhancing pedestrian bridges near recreational areas, and improving overall accessibility.

Randhawa emphasized that transparency and quality control will be maintained at every stage of the project. “Every development initiative will undergo third-party audits. Our goal is to make Islamabad a model capital where sports, recreation, and urban development go hand in hand,” he added.

Residents have welcomed the initiative, noting that access to more sports facilities will encourage physical activity, reduce youth involvement in unhealthy habits, and provide safe community spaces for recreation. The CDA hopes the project will also enhance Islamabad’s appeal as a well-planned and vibrant city.

With work set to begin in phases, the authority has not yet announced a completion timeline, but officials confirmed that funding allocations have been secured. The CDA aims to ensure that the new sports infrastructure meets international standards while catering to the local population’s needs.

This large-scale sports development is expected to not only improve recreational opportunities but also contribute to Islamabad’s urban beautification and community cohesion, reinforcing its status as one of Pakistan’s most liveable cities.
