Two unidentified men broke into a home in Jhang’s Mouza Mehram Sial, throwing acid on a 17-year-old college girl, leaving her critically injured, as police launch a manhunt for the perpetrators.

On August 3, 2025, a horrific acid attack in Mouza Mehram Sial, a suburb of Jhang, left 17-year-old Bushra Fatima severely injured after two unidentified assailants entered her home and threw acid on her face while she slept, according to a report by 24NewsHD TV channel. The attack, which occurred in the early hours, caused extensive burns, and Bushra was rushed to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in critical condition, as confirmed by police sources cited by The News. Jhang District Police Officer (DPO) Bilal Iftikhar Kiani took immediate notice, ordering a swift investigation and directing authorities to apprehend the culprits, per ARY News. The police have registered a case under Section 324 (attempted murder) and Section 336-B (hurt by corrosive substance) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), as reported by Dawn.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with local residents demanding justice and stricter measures to curb acid violence. A neighbor, speaking to Geo News, reported hearing screams from Bushra’s home around 2 a.m., prompting a rapid response from locals who alerted the police. Initial investigations suggest the attackers fled on foot, and police are analyzing nearby CCTV footage to identify them, according to The Express Tribune. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz condemned the attack, vowing to ensure the perpetrators face severe punishment and emphasizing the need for enhanced community safety, as stated in a press release cited by Pakistan Today.

This attack adds to the alarming rise of acid violence in Punjab, with 197 cases reported in 2024, per Voicepk.net. The Jhang police have intensified patrols and are working with forensic teams to gather evidence, including traces of the corrosive substance used, per The Frontier Post. The incident underscores the urgent need for stronger enforcement of laws like the Acid Control and Acid Crime Prevention Act of 2011 to protect vulnerable citizens and deter such heinous crimes.
