Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Balochistan Emir Maulana Hidayatur Rehman warned of a protest march to the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters if the federal government fails to implement an eight-point agreement within six months, following a recent march from Quetta to Islamabad.

On August 7, 2025, Maulana Hidayatur Rehman, the Balochistan Emir of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), issued a stern ultimatum to the federal government during a press conference in Quetta. He threatened to lead a protest march to the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi if the government does not fulfill an eight-point agreement within six months. This follows a long march from Quetta to Islamabad, launched on July 25, 2025, to highlight grievances including enforced disappearances, lawlessness, and restricted access to resources in Balochistan, as reported by Dawn. Rehman stressed that the government’s failure to address these issues would force JI to resume protests, potentially escalating tensions.

The eight-point agreement, reached after negotiations during the recent march, demands the recovery of missing persons, cessation of extrajudicial killings, and greater control for Balochistan’s people over their natural resources. Rehman criticized the government for neglecting the province’s needs, particularly in Gwadar, where he demanded basic amenities like electricity, clean water, healthcare, and job opportunities before the deep-sea port becomes fully operational. He warned that unresolved issues would lead to stronger resistance, stating that the government would face significant opposition if it continued to ignore Balochistan’s plight, according to the International Business Times.

Rehman also highlighted the provincial government’s inability to represent Balochistan’s interests effectively, noting that resolutions passed in the Balochistan Assembly lack practical impact. He criticized the allocation of 80 billion Pakistani Rupees (PKR) to law enforcement, questioning their effectiveness in maintaining peace. The JI leader announced plans for a jirga with political and trade organizations to strategize further if the government fails to act, as per Dawn’s coverage.

The protest march, initially halted in Lahore by Punjab Police on July 29, 2025, was called off after negotiations, but Rehman’s latest statement signals renewed resolve. The Nation reported that JI’s leadership, including Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, remains committed to advocating for Balochistan’s rights through peaceful means, while condemning the state’s heavy-handed tactics. Local communities in Balochistan continue to rally behind JI’s cause, demanding accountability and justice.
