Karachi Bus Accident Kills Motorcyclist, Driver Arrested

A speeding passenger bus fatally struck a motorcyclist near Pukhtoonabad in Karachi’s Manghopir area on Sunday, marking another deadly incident on the city’s roads.

Police confirmed that the motorcyclist sustained critical injuries after being run over by the vehicle. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The bus driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. However, police later managed to arrest him, and the bus was taken into custody as part of the investigation.

This tragic case was not an isolated event. According to rescue officials, at least five people, including a woman, were killed in separate road accidents across the city within a matter of hours on the same day. These accidents occurred in multiple locations including Korangi, Shah Faisal Colony, Landhi, Manghopir, and near the Radio Pakistan building.

Two other individuals were injured in the incidents and were shifted to local hospitals for medical attention. Their condition remains unknown.

The frequency of such road tragedies has sparked renewed concerns among citizens and officials about the state of road safety in Karachi. Public transport vehicles and heavy-duty trucks are frequently involved in fatal collisions, often due to speeding, lack of driver training, or insufficient enforcement of traffic laws.

Official statistics reveal that road accidents have already claimed 536 lives in Karachi in the year 2025, while more than 6,000 people have sustained various injuries. The numbers indicate a rising trend in urban traffic fatalities, placing pressure on authorities to implement stricter safety measures and monitor reckless driving, particularly among commercial and public transport drivers.

Traffic police and civic bodies are being urged to carry out regular checks on commercial vehicles, enforce licensing requirements more stringently, and launch awareness campaigns on road safety for both drivers and pedestrians.

While the arrested bus driver now faces legal action, the frequency of such incidents has sparked public concern over transport safety and law enforcement in Karachi.
