Karachi Couple Murdered in Suspected Honour Killing

Police in Karachi are investigating two separate but equally brutal incidents that appear to be linked to honour-related violence. Both cases involve the murder of couples who allegedly defied family expectations, resulting in deadly consequences.

In the first case, the bodies of a young couple were discovered near China Port in Clifton Block 2 on July 28. The victims were identified as Sajid Masih and Sana Muhammad Asif. According to police officials from the Boat Basin police station, the couple had been shot at close range. Two spent 9mm pistol casings were recovered from the scene. Authorities believe the victims were brought to the area and killed during the night or early morning hours.

The bodies were transferred to the Chhipa morgue in Saddar. Sajid’s remains were later claimed by his family and buried at Mohammad Shah Graveyard in North Karachi. Sana’s body, however, remains unclaimed. Investigators confirmed that the couple hailed from the same village in Gujranwala and were planning to marry despite their families’ opposition. A First Information Report (FIR) for kidnapping had previously been filed against Sajid by Sana’s brother. Although police suspect honour-based motives behind the killing, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident in Ghaghar Phatak’s Bamboo Goth area, a couple and their three-year-old son were murdered inside their home in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The victims were identified as Abdul Majeed, his wife Sakina, and their son Abdul Nabi. Police reported that the family was attacked with an axe and killed in what appears to have been a targeted assault.

According to officials at Steel Town police station, the couple had married against Sakina’s family’s wishes seven to eight years ago. Although a reconciliation reportedly took place about two years ago, investigators believe unresolved resentment may have led to the attack. A case has been registered by Abdul Majeed’s brother, Imam Bakhsh, naming six suspects. Among those identified are Sakina’s brother Shehzad, her father Gulab Khan, and an alleged accomplice named Mir Ali, also known as Hasan.

Both incidents remain under investigation, and police are continuing efforts to trace and apprehend the suspects. Authorities have expressed concern over the recurring pattern of honour-related violence and have urged families to resolve disputes through lawful and non-violent means.
