Karachi Man Jumps into Sea with Two Children

A tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening at the Do Darya area of Karachi’s Sea View when a man allegedly jumped into the sea with two young children, believed to be between the ages of five and seven. According to eyewitnesses, the man first threw one child into the water and then jumped in with the other in his arms.

Emergency services and locals responded to the scene, but efforts to save the trio were unsuccessful. Witnesses described the horrifying moment when the children struggled and the man plunged into the sea. One child was seen attempting to escape but could not get away. People at the scene threw sticks into the water and called out to nearby boats in an attempt to rescue the victims, but the strong currents made it difficult.

Ahmed Ali, one of the witnesses present at the site, said it was a deeply emotional moment. He recounted seeing the children holding hands before the incident. “One tried to run, but couldn’t get away,” he said.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Raza Butt, who was among the first responders, stated that the police received a call from a citizen named Rana Safdar, reporting the incident. Police immediately dispatched officers to the location. The Edhi Foundation, known for its marine rescue operations, also launched a search effort using their maritime unit.

As night fell, poor visibility forced authorities to suspend the search. Edhi officials confirmed that no trace of the man or children had been found as of Thursday night. The operation is set to resume on Friday morning once daylight returns.

The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed, and the cause of the incident remains under investigation. Some local residents speculated that the man may have been under the influence of drugs, though police have not confirmed this and no evidence has been provided to support the claim.

The incident has raised concerns among citizens regarding safety and emergency preparedness at the city’s coastal areas. Many questioned whether rescue services could have arrived more quickly or if safety protocols were in place to prevent such tragedies.
