A group of armed assailants stole Rs9.7 million in a daring daylight robbery outside a commercial bank near Godam Chowrangi in the Korangi Industrial Area on Tuesday, according to police officials. The robbers opened fire on a private security van as its guards were exiting the bank after collecting cash. Two security personnel sustained bullet injuries during the attack.

The incident occurred in a busy commercial district and quickly drew the attention of law enforcement. According to reports confirmed by Dialogue Pakistan and local police sources, the robbers escaped with the money after the shootout. The injured guards were taken to a nearby hospital and were said to be in stable condition.

Initial investigations indicate that five guards were aboard the cash van when it arrived at the bank. As they exited with the cash, they were ambushed by four armed men who opened fire. Police confirmed that the guards returned fire, but the suspects managed to flee with the cash. Surveillance footage from nearby buildings is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Law enforcement has launched a forensic and technical probe to track down the suspects. Investigators are using video footage and digital tools to trace the robbers’ movements before and after the heist. However, officials have not released further information about the suspects’ identities or whether any arrests have been made.

In a separate statement, Karachi police mentioned increased efforts to curb rising incidents of robberies targeting cash vans and business transfers. The city has experienced similar attacks in the past year, including a high-profile robbery in 2024 where over Rs20 million was looted in a similar fashion.

Although another robbery involving Rs3.3 million in Bilal Colony was mentioned in initial reports from local sources, there has been no official confirmation or independent media coverage of that specific case as of this writing. Police have not released any public statements regarding arrests or suspect involvement in that incident.

The recent heist has prompted renewed calls for improved security measures among private companies responsible for cash handling. Authorities are urging banks and security firms to follow stricter protocols when transporting large sums of money.

The investigation into the Korangi robbery is ongoing, and further updates are expected as more evidence becomes available.
