The Sindh government marked a day of civic progress and patriotic celebration on Sunday with the inauguration of a football stadium in Malir and a 29-kilometre women’s motorbike rally through Karachi.

Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani officially opened the Malir Union Football Stadium, highlighting the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) commitment to inclusive urban development across the province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ghani said that billions of rupees have been allocated for infrastructure and community projects in Karachi, many of which are expected to be completed within the current financial year.

“Development is not limited to rural areas,” he stated. “We are implementing projects in major cities like Karachi, ensuring that every area benefits from civic improvements.”

Alongside the stadium launch, several other community centres and development schemes were also initiated in the Malir area, part of a broader strategy to expand access to recreational and civic facilities.

Earlier in the day, Minister Ghani and Sindh Minister for Tourism and Culture Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah flagged off a women’s motorbike rally as part of province-wide celebrations ahead of Pakistan’s Independence Day. The rally began at Quaid-e-Azam House and concluded at the historic Chaukhandi Tombs, covering a distance of 29 kilometres.

Hundreds of women participated in the event, riding motorcycles across the city to promote messages of national unity and empowerment. Participants were seen waving Pakistani flags and wearing traditional attire, contributing to a festive atmosphere.

Tourism Minister Zulfiqar Ali Shah praised the rally’s impact, calling it a tribute to the late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He noted that events like these serve to honour women’s contributions to society.

“This rally celebrates not only independence but also the role of women in our country’s progress,” he said, adding that Aseefa Bhutto continues to be active in promoting women’s leadership in Pakistan.

The day’s events were part of a wider initiative to boost public engagement in national festivities and highlight ongoing development projects across Sindh. Organisers noted that such initiatives help build community pride and foster a sense of ownership in local progress.

As the country approaches its 78th Independence Day, officials said more events would be held throughout August, including cultural exhibitions, flag-hoisting ceremonies, and public outreach campaigns.

Karachi, often at the heart of such activities, remains central to the provincial government’s focus on urban development and community engagement.
