Khyber Pakhtunkhwa raises police martyrs’ compensation to Rs11 million and increases the recruitment quota for their families to 12.5%, honoring their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

On August 4, 2025, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed announced a significant enhancement to the martyrs’ compensation package, raising it to Rs11 million for families of fallen constables and head constables, as reported by Dunya News. The provincial government also increased the recruitment quota for martyrs’ families for the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) position from 5% to 12.5%, with 280 heirs already inducted, according to The Nation. These measures aim to support families of police officers killed in the line of duty, particularly in KP’s ongoing battle against terrorism, which has claimed over 2,000 police lives in the past 25 years, per Devdiscourse.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, speaking at a Police Martyrs’ Day ceremony in Peshawar, emphasized the sacrifices of the KP Police, stating that they face “terrorists who defeated superpowers,” as quoted by Daily Times. The government has allocated Rs158 billion to the police budget, up from Rs124 billion, to improve welfare and equip the force with modern technology. Families of martyrs will also receive residential plots, 5 marla for constables, 7 marla for ASIs and Sub-Inspectors (SIs), and larger plots for higher ranks, ensuring long-term support, per Dunya News. Gandapur confirmed that funds for martyrs and injured officers will now be managed directly by the police department, streamlining aid delivery.

The increased compensation package varies by rank: Rs16 million for Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), Rs21 million for Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), and Rs23 million for Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and above. This follows a Rs1 million increase across all ranks, addressing long-standing demands for fair compensation, as noted in a 2017 Peshawar High Court (PHC) petition by Khurshid Khan, per The Express Tribune. Despite these efforts, some families from Kohat, Bannu, and Mardan plan to boycott Martyrs’ Day events, citing unfulfilled promises of employment for martyrs’ children since 1998, according to The Express Tribune. The government’s commitment remains firm, with Gandapur vowing to prioritize police welfare and honor the fallen.
