NCCIA Summons Aleema Khan Over Alleged Anti-State Online Activity

Aleema Khan, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has been formally summoned by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) regarding accusations of anti-state conduct through social media platforms. This latest development adds to the growing scrutiny surrounding political dissent and online expression in the country.

Sources from within the NCCIA have confirmed that Aleema is expected to present herself at the agency’s Lahore headquarters, located in Gulberg-II, on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. The call for her appearance is directly tied to a case filed against her on May 27, 2025. Authorities stated that the purpose is to provide her with an opportunity to deliver her statement in response to the charges.

The inquiry focuses on allegations that Aleema Khan participated in or promoted digital content that authorities have flagged as “hostile to the state.” While specifics of the posts or content in question have not been disclosed, sources suggest that the material allegedly violated sections of the law meant to safeguard national interests and internal security.

Officials speaking to Express News noted that the investigation is ongoing and that Khan’s cooperation is necessary to complete due process. The NCCIA, a division responsible for cyber law enforcement and digital security, has been more active in recent months in monitoring social media for what the current administration interprets as “subversive” narratives.

This case, however, raises broader concerns about free expression and the expanding use of cybercrime laws against dissenting voices, particularly those aligned with or supportive of opposition movements. Critics argue that these efforts reflect a trend where the digital sphere is being used to silence opposition under the guise of national security, rather than to foster open and democratic dialogue.

As the political climate continues to polarize, the public response to Aleema Khan’s summons may serve as a bellwether for how civil liberties and government authority collide in the digital age. Her legal team has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the case.
