Punjab’s Central Business District (CBD) has announced a major milestone in the development of Nawaz Sharif IT City (NSIT City), as the project officially received its Special Technology Zone Development Licence from the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA).

In an official statement, the CBD Punjab confirmed that 25% of the infrastructure development work at NSIT City has already been completed. This marks significant progress for the project, which is being positioned as a hub for technological innovation and knowledge-based economic activity in Pakistan.

The residential plots within the NSIT City have reportedly garnered a strong response from investors and the public alike. According to officials, the area’s Silicon Block dedicated to high-tech industries has already sold 90% of its plots, highlighting the high market demand and investor confidence in the initiative.

Further enhancing the project’s potential, an agreement has been finalised to establish a state-of-the-art data centre within the zone. This development is expected to support digital infrastructure needs and attract IT companies seeking secure and scalable data storage solutions.

In a move to diversify its offerings, the CBD Punjab also revealed that it is in the process of establishing Pakistan’s first film production zone within NSIT City. The launch of this entertainment and creative zone is currently awaiting final government approval. If approved, this will mark a new chapter in Pakistan’s media and film industry development, combining creative arts with digital innovation in a single urban centre.

Imran Amin, CEO of CBD Punjab, expressed optimism about the project’s role in reshaping Punjab’s economic landscape. “Punjab is set to emerge as a global technology hub,” he said. “This project will attract foreign investment, drive innovation, and power knowledge-based economic growth.”

The awarding of the Special Technology Zone Development Licence by the STZA is seen as a critical step towards realising the project’s full potential. It provides legal and regulatory backing for continued development, along with tax incentives and regulatory facilitation to encourage local and international investment in the technology sector.

The Nawaz Sharif IT City project aligns with broader government efforts to promote digital transformation and create sustainable, technology-driven economic zones in the country. With strong investor interest, active construction, and strategic planning underway, NSIT City is poised to become a key player in South Asia’s emerging tech ecosystem.
