Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar demands India revoke its 2019 Kashmir decisions, emphasizing peace but warning of a strong response to any aggression.

On August 5, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar of Pakistan called for India to reverse its actions of August 5, 2019, when it revoked Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status. Speaking at a rally in Islamabad marking Youm-e-Istehsal (Kashmir Exploitation Day), Dar condemned India’s moves as illegal and unilateral, asserting they violated United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace, favoring dialogue and diplomacy, but stressed that the nation remains prepared to counter any aggression robustly, citing a unified stance from Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC).

Dar emphasized Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, urging India to release political prisoners, lift oppressive laws, and allow international observers into Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts during its July 2025 UNSC presidency, where he raised the Kashmir issue alongside the Palestinian cause, gaining international attention. Dar also criticized India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a breach of international law, and demanded its reinstatement as part of a broader dialogue.

The rally, attended by students and diverse groups at D Chowk, underscored Pakistan’s resolve to support Kashmiris morally, politically, and diplomatically. Dar accused India of suppressing Kashmiri rights through black laws and a campaign against Muslims, alleging state-sponsored terrorism. He referenced Pakistan’s military response to India’s Operation Sindoor, claiming it thwarted Indian aggression while losing six fighter jets. Dar praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their leadership in countering India’s actions.

This statement comes amid ongoing tensions following the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 tourists and prompted India’s Operation Sindoor, targeting Pakistani airbases. Dar’s call for dialogue reflects Pakistan’s push for de-escalation, but his warning of a decisive response signals readiness for confrontation if provoked, highlighting the fragile state of India-Pakistan relations.
