Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar met Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi in Islamabad to discuss deepening bilateral ties, focusing on trade, security, and regional stability.

In a significant step toward reinforcing regional alliances, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held talks with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, in Islamabad on August 3, 2025. The meeting, hosted by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), centered on strengthening the historical and cultural bonds between the two nations. Both leaders emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in trade, energy, border security, and regional connectivity, according to a statement from the MoFA.

The discussions addressed critical regional issues, including rising tensions in South Asia following a deadly attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which India attributed to Pakistan—a claim Dar firmly rejected. He called for an international investigation into the incident, describing India’s accusations as a distraction from the Kashmir dispute. Araghchi, echoing Pakistan’s stance, urged restraint to prevent escalation, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to regional peace.

Economic and strategic cooperation was a key focus, with both sides pledging to enhance trade and energy ties. The MoFA noted that the talks laid the groundwork for high-level leadership discussions, signaling a positive trajectory for Pakistan-Iran relations. Dar expressed appreciation for Iran’s timely engagement, particularly amid regional challenges. Araghchi conveyed Tehran’s desire to deepen ties, citing the deep-rooted cultural and religious connections between the two countries.

The meeting follows recent diplomatic engagements, including a phone call between Dar and Iran’s Foreign Minister on July 27, 2025, where they discussed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the need for a two-state solution for Palestine. This ongoing dialogue underscores Pakistan and Iran’s efforts to align on pressing global issues while fostering mutual economic benefits.

As both nations navigate a complex geopolitical landscape, the commitment to bolster ties reflects a pragmatic approach to regional stability and economic growth. The MoFA emphasized that Pakistan and Iran will continue to work closely to build a strong foundation for future collaboration.
