Pakistani Woman Accused of Deadly Crash Suffers from Mental Health Issues, Lawyer Claims

Natasha Danish, the Pakistani woman filmed smiling after allegedly killing two people in a car accident, is “mentally weak” and unaware of her actions, her lawyer has claimed. The incident, which occurred in Karachi on August 19, sparked outrage after video footage showed Danish taunting bystanders. Her legal representative insists she has struggled with mental health issues for years and was on medication at the time.

The crash took place on Karsaz Road when Danish, driving a Toyota Land Cruiser, struck a motorcycle and a parked car, killing a father and daughter and injuring four others. Witnesses reported that Danish appeared unremorseful, even smirking and allegedly saying, *”Tum mere baap ko nahi jantay” (You don’t know who my father is). The remark fueled public anger, with many accusing her of leveraging family connections to evade accountability.

However, her lawyer, Amir Mansub, told The Times of Karachi that Danish was not in a sound mental state during the incident. “She doesn’t remember driving or causing the accident,” he said. “She is mentally weak and has been under treatment for five years. People in such conditions often have no recollection of their actions.” Mansub’s comments have drawn mixed reactions, with some questioning whether mental health concerns are being used to deflect responsibility.

The case has reignited debates over privilege and justice in Pakistan, where wealth and influence are often perceived to tip the scales in legal proceedings. Authorities have yet to confirm whether Danish will face charges or if her mental health will be a factor in the investigation. Meanwhile, the victims’ families demand accountability, underscoring the tension between legal defenses and public outcry in high-profile tragedies.
