A Peshawar resident faces charges from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) for cyberstalking and harassment after allegedly threatening to leak a complainant’s personal photos online.

On August 8, 2025, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) charged a man in Peshawar with cyberstalking and online harassment following a complaint that he threatened to disclose personal images of the victim. The NCCIA, established under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, acted swiftly after the complainant reported receiving menacing messages. The agency’s prompt response underscores its mandate to combat digital crimes, including harassment, fraud, and blackmail, as outlined in its operational framework since replacing the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing in May 2024.

The accused, whose identity remains undisclosed pending further investigation, allegedly used online platforms to intimidate the complainant, causing significant distress. According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the agency received the complaint via its online portal, accessible at complaint.nccia.gov.pk, and initiated an investigation immediately. The spokesperson emphasized the agency’s commitment to protecting citizens’ digital safety, stating that such acts of harassment undermine public trust in online spaces. The case highlights the growing prevalence of cybercrimes in Pakistan, with the NCCIA reporting increased complaints about online intimidation and privacy violations.

Under PECA 2016, cyberstalking and harassment carry penalties of up to seven years in prison and substantial fines, reflecting the government’s push for stricter enforcement. The NCCIA’s efforts build on recent operations, including a June 2025 crackdown in Multan, where two suspects were arrested for a Rs20 billion online fraud scheme. In Peshawar, local authorities have cooperated with the NCCIA to ensure the accused faces due process. The agency encourages victims to report incidents through its 24/7 helpline (1799) or regional offices, including in Peshawar, to curb the rising tide of cyber threats.

The case has sparked local concern about digital safety, with residents urging stronger awareness campaigns. The NCCIA’s role in fostering a secure online environment remains critical, as it balances enforcement with public education to deter cybercriminals. As investigations continue, the agency vows to uphold justice and protect citizens from digital harassment. For further details or to report cybercrimes, visit nccia.gov.pk or contact the helpline.
