Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian met Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr to strengthen bilateral ties, focusing on trade, security, and regional stability. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation amid ongoing regional challenges.

On August 3, 2025, President Pezeshkian, during his first official visit to Pakistan, was warmly received by President Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the presidential residence in Islamabad. The meeting, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, emphasized expanding bilateral relations in trade, energy, and security, according to a statement from the Pakistan Foreign Office (FO). Zardari highlighted the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Iran, grounded in shared history and mutual respect, and condemned Israel’s recent aggression against Iran during the 12-day conflict in June 2025. He praised the Iranian nation’s resilience, as reported by Geo News. Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support during the conflict, noting its role in advocating diplomacy for regional peace, per the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

The leaders discussed elevating bilateral trade from $3 billion to $10 billion annually, building on agreements signed during the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit in April 2024. Zardari underscored Pakistan’s commitment to regional cooperation, thanking Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for supporting Pakistan’s stance on Jammu and Kashmir, according to Minute Mirror. Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s priority to strengthen ties with Pakistan, citing shared cultural and religious bonds, as reported by Mehr News Agency. The meeting also addressed the Gaza crisis, with both leaders calling for a ceasefire.

Pezeshkian’s visit included meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, where 12 memoranda of understanding were signed, covering trade, technology, and security, per The News. National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also met Pezeshkian, pledging to enhance parliamentary ties, as noted by APP. The visit, marked by a state banquet hosted by Zardari, underscored Pakistan’s strategic partnership with Iran, with both nations aiming to address border security and boost economic ties, according to Pakistan Today.
