Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Pakistan’s police martyrs on National Police Martyrs’ Day, commending their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and pledging federal support for their families.

On August 4, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif honored the courage of police personnel who lost their lives combating terrorism, emphasizing their critical role as the nation’s frontline defenders. Speaking on National Police Martyrs’ Day, Sharif noted that over 8,000 officers have sacrificed their lives to maintain law and order, protecting millions from the scourge of terrorism, according to Geo.tv. He praised the police for conducting hundreds of operations to counter terrorist threats, highlighting their resilience in harsh conditions, as reported by the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP). Sharif also acknowledged the families of the martyrs, saluting their strength and sacrifice for the country’s future.

The Prime Minister’s remarks followed recent attacks, including a deadly assault on a Bannu checkpoint that killed Constable Rooh Niaz Khan, with security forces eliminating three militants in response, per Dawn. Sharif condemned such acts, vowing that the government’s resolve to eradicate terrorism remains unshaken. He cited the success of the Elite Force in Rahim Yar Khan and police achievements at the 2025 World Summit, which have bolstered public trust through advanced technology and joint operations, as noted by Geo.tv. Sharif also recalled his tenure as Punjab Chief Minister, where he introduced a historic support package for martyrs’ families, ensuring education and healthcare, per Radio Pakistan.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi echoed Sharif’s sentiments, honoring fallen officers and directing medical aid for those injured in recent attacks, according to The Express Tribune. The government’s commitment includes ongoing efforts like Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, launched in June 2024 to counter rising militancy, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), where 476 terror incidents claimed 121 civilian lives in 2025, per Geo News. Sharif’s administration continues to prioritize robust counterterrorism measures while supporting bereaved families, reinforcing the nation’s gratitude for its police force’s unwavering dedication.
