Police recover Rs3.47 million, weapons, and stolen car

Police in Karachi have arrested two men accused of participating in a daring cash van robbery that took place last week in the Korangi Industrial Area, recovering a portion of the stolen money, weapons, and a snatched vehicle.

The incident occurred on Thursday near Godam Chowrangi, when armed assailants targeted a cash transfer operation from a private bank. The robbers managed to escape with Rs9.7 million after shooting and injuring two security guards.

According to Korangi SSP Tariq Nawaz, the arrested suspects have been identified as Ali Bakhsh and Parvez. During the arrest, authorities recovered Rs3.47 million, a snatched Suzuki Alto, and multiple weapons, including a 9mm pistol taken from security supervisor Ismatullah, an additional 9mm pistol, a .30 bore pistol, and 12 stolen mobile phones.

A manhunt is underway for three other suspects  Deedar Ali Jagirani, Shaukat Ali, and Qari  who allegedly tipped off the gang about the bank’s cash transfer schedule. Police say the group was specifically targeting vehicles transporting large sums of money.

Following the robbery, the DIG East ordered the formation of a special task force, led by DSP Landhi and comprising officers from Korangi Industrial Area, Korangi, and Zaman Town police stations. Using CCTV footage and other forensic tools, the team managed to arrest two of the suspects within 24 hours.

Preliminary findings suggest the robbers belong to a larger, organized gang comprising 8 to 10 members, operating across Karachi, rural Sindh, and Balochistan. The group is believed to be involved in a series of similar cash van robberies and vehicle thefts.

The robbery took place around 12:30pm on Thursday, prompting swift action from law enforcement. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has announced a cash reward for the officers involved in the arrests.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover the rest of the stolen funds.
