On July 19, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering diplomatic, moral, and political support for the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination, marking Accession to Pakistan Day. This annual commemoration honors the 1947 resolution by the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (AJKMC) to join Pakistan, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to the Kashmir cause amid ongoing regional tensions.

The Accession to Pakistan Day, observed annually on July 19, celebrates the historic Srinagar session of the AJKMC in 1947, where Kashmiris unanimously resolved to accede to Pakistan based on shared religious, cultural, and geographical ties. Prime Minister Sharif, in a statement reported by Dawn, emphasized that a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue, in line with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, remains essential for regional stability and Kashmiri rights. “Pakistan stands firm with our Kashmiri brothers and sisters,” Sharif declared, underscoring the enduring spirit of the Kashmiri struggle against Indian occupation.

The resolve of Kashmiris, Sharif noted, has only strengthened over generations, with the third generation continuing the fight for self-determination. Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), Engineer Amir Muqam, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Pakistan upholds its principled stance for a peaceful resolution,” as reported by Radio Pakistan. He highlighted the 1947 resolution’s reflection of Kashmiris’ aspirations, rooted in deep ties with Pakistan.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), leaders like President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry paid tribute to the Kashmiri people’s sacrifices, asserting that “India has no legitimate claim to Kashmir,” according to Pakistan Today. He described the 1947 resolution as a defining moment, reinforcing Pakistan as the “center of Kashmiri hopes.” AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq added, “Love for Pakistan is a matter of faith for Kashmiris,” honoring martyrs as national heroes.
