Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) finalized its August 5, 2025, protest strategy, with leaders set to rally outside Adiala Jail to demand the release of founder Imran Khan.

On August 4, 2025, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership convened in Islamabad to finalize plans for a nationwide protest on August 5, marking two years since the incarceration of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. According to party sources cited by The Nation, all PTI Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) and Senators have been summoned to the capital to lead a demonstration from Islamabad to Rawalpindi, culminating outside Adiala Jail, where Khan remains detained. The protest, spearheaded by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, aims to pressure the government to free Khan and other detained party workers, per The Express Tribune.

The PTI’s central leadership, including Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, has coordinated with provincial units to ensure a strong turnout, instructing every ticket-holder to lead rallies in their constituencies under the banner of Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aain-e-Pakistan (Movement for the Protection of Pakistan’s Constitution). Asad Qaiser, former National Assembly Speaker, emphasized that the protests will remain lawful, focusing on constitutional rights and Khan’s release, as reported by Pakistan Today. Qaiser described Khan’s arrest as a symbol of political injustice, per a statement from Swabi.

The strategy follows intense internal debates, with some leaders, like Punjab Chief Organizer Aliya Hamza Malik, initially pushing for an immediate protest, while others favored a 90-day campaign, per The Express Tribune. The decision to focus on Adiala Jail reflects Khan’s call to unify, relayed through his sister Aleema Khanum, who urged supporters to mobilize despite reported police crackdowns, including home raids and frozen bank accounts, according to Pakistan Today.

The government has responded with heightened security, imposing Section 144 in Punjab to ban public gatherings, citing risks of terrorism, per The Tribune India. PTI claims these measures aim to suppress their movement, with Aleema alleging selective justice against party workers, as quoted by The Express Tribune. The protests, expected to draw thousands, underscore PTI’s resolve to challenge what they call a politically motivated campaign against Khan, who faces multiple legal cases, including the Toshakhana and Al-Qadir Trust cases.
