PTI Secretariat Workers Face Financial Hardship as Leadership Fails to Deliver on Promises

Employees at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Secretariat have endured months of unpaid wages and salary cuts, despite repeated promises from the party’s leadership. The issue remains unresolved, with no internal corrective measures publicly announced.

Nearly nine months after their salaries were abruptly halved, employees at the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) Central Secretariat remain trapped in a financial crisis. The cuts, which began in October of last year, have yet to be reversed. Despite repeated assurances from top party figures, including PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, no meaningful action has been taken to address the issue or clear the backlog of unpaid dues.

Many of these staff members remained loyal to the party during a time of reported political pressure. Some were detained, harassed, or reportedly faced legal challenges. A number had FIRs (First Information Reports) were registered against them simply for being affiliated with PTI. Yet, rather than being supported or compensated, they were either let go without compensation or left to wait indefinitely for their rightful wages.

Party insiders claim that senior figures, including Salman Akram Raja and Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram, were repeatedly informed of the worsening situation. Sheikh Waqas Akram had publicly assured staff that their dues would be settled soon. However, these promises have yet to be fulfilled, further eroding morale among workers who have already endured months of economic hardship.

The party’s internal communications team has also not been spared. Sibghatullah Wirk, former head of the PTI media department, reportedly went into hiding for several months due to mounting political pressure and financial constraints. Eventually, he submitted his resignation, frustrated by the lack of support from party leadership.

To add to the crisis, sources revealed that the party founder had directed all MNAs (Members of the National Assembly) and MPAs (Members of the Provincial Assembly) to contribute funds to keep the Secretariat functioning. Few members reportedly responded, placing added pressure on remaining staff.

The unresolved situation continues to affect staff and raises concerns about internal party accountability. Until corrective measures are enforced, confidence in leadership commitments may remain in doubt.
