PTI’s 90-Day ‘Do-or-Die’ Push to Secure Political Aims

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has launched a high-stakes 90-day anti-government campaign, described as a “do-or-die” effort to achieve its political objectives, as announced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on July 13, 2025. The movement, led by PTI founder Imran Khan, aims to challenge the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led coalition government, with a peak planned by August 5. This article examines the campaign’s goals, its context, and the challenges facing PTI.

Since Imran Khan’s ouster as Prime Minister via a no-confidence motion in 2022, PTI has been locked in a bitter struggle with the ruling coalition, previously the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and now PML-N. Gandapur, speaking in Lahore, framed the campaign as a decisive moment for PTI’s future, stating, “We have set our targets to decide within 90 days whether we should even do politics in this country”. The party’s leadership, including Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and Yasmin Rashid, faces ongoing legal battles, with many jailed, fueling PTI’s narrative of state oppression. Gandapur’s ultimatum to “decision makers” signals a confrontational approach, warning, “On the 91st day, it will be either us or you”.

The campaign’s focus includes demands for Khan’s release and broader political reforms, with protests planned across districts and union councils. PTI’s strategy hinges on mobilizing grassroots support, as Gandapur emphasized the movement as a “war for the people of Pakistan”. However, the party faces hurdles, including internal cohesion and external pressures like legal cases and government crackdowns. Recent posts on X reflect PTI’s resolve, with Gandapur urging party officials to fully commit or step aside. The campaign also responds to rumors of a no-confidence motion against Gandapur’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, which he dismissed, challenging critics like Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman to test their political strength.

For Pakistan’s citizens, weary of political instability, PTI’s aggressive push raises questions about governance and accountability. While the party’s base remains loyal, the campaign’s success depends on sustaining momentum against a formidable coalition. As the 90-day clock ticks, PTI’s gamble could reshape Pakistan’s political landscape or risk further marginalization
