PTI’s Raja Slams Aliya Hamza for X Post, Threatens Disciplinary Measures

Internal tensions within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have flared as Secretary General Salman Akram Raja publicly rebuked Punjab Chief Organiser Aliya Hamza for her critical X post about a Lahore event, warning of disciplinary action. This article examines the rift, its implications for PTI’s unity, and the leadership’s response amid a crucial protest movement.

On July 16, 2025, Raja lashed out at Hamza for her X post questioning the planning behind a PTI parliamentary meeting in Lahore, which she was not invited to. Speaking outside Adiala Jail, Raja called her remarks “unnecessary” and a product of “stupidity and conspiracy,” insisting her role is to mobilize Punjab, not to tweet. “If this happens again, we’ll take disciplinary action,” he warned, as reported by Geo News. Hamza’s post sarcastically noted her exclusion from the meeting, attended by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Malik Ahmad Bhachar, raising questions about the party’s 90-day protest strategy to free jailed founder Imran Khan.

The dispute has exposed cracks in PTI’s leadership at a pivotal moment. Senator Barrister Syed Ali Zafar criticized Raja’s “inappropriate” tone, acknowledging Hamza’s valid grievance over her exclusion. “It was a significant lapse,” Zafar said, apologizing for the oversight, per The News. Meanwhile, Imran Khan, via his sister Aleema Khan, urged PTI leaders to end infighting and focus on the protest movement peaking on August 5, 2025, marking two years of his incarceration. Aleema emphasized unity, warning that Khan would take “strict action” against discord, according to Geo News.

Raja’s rejection of Gandapur’s 90-day protest timeline, insisting on Khan’s August 5 deadline, further highlights strategic misalignment. Hamza’s public dissent, while bold, risks undermining PTI’s cohesion as it challenges Pakistan’s government. Posts on X reflect mixed sentiments, with some users decrying Raja’s harsh tone as “vile” and others urging discipline. PTI’s ability to rally for Khan’s release hinges on resolving these internal conflicts swiftly, lest they weaken a movement already facing government resistance.
