The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab announced on Friday that two suspected terrorists were killed during an intelligence-led operation near Kundian in Mianwali. Officials said the suspects were allegedly preparing an imminent attack on police and other sensitive targets in the region.

According to a statement from the CTD, the operation was launched after credible intelligence indicated that a group of armed militants had finalised plans to strike security forces. Acting on this information, CTD personnel moved into the area to intercept the suspects.

Upon arrival, the CTD team encountered the group, leading to a gun battle. During the exchange of fire, two of the suspects were fatally wounded, reportedly by gunfire from their own accomplices, while six others managed to escape. Following the clash, security forces immediately began a large-scale search operation to locate the fugitives.

At the scene, CTD officers recovered two rifles, several hand grenades, a quantity of explosives, and ammunition. Officials said the seized items indicated the group was equipped for a high-impact assault on security forces or other government installations.

Authorities are now working to confirm the identities of the deceased suspects. Intelligence efforts are also underway to track down the remaining fugitives and investigate whether they were linked to a broader militant network operating in or around Mianwali.

A CTD spokesperson stated that security agencies remain committed to taking decisive action against groups planning acts of violence in Punjab. “We will continue our operations to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent attacks before they occur,” the spokesperson said.

Security officials have urged the public to remain alert and to immediately report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies. They stressed that public cooperation is a critical component in the effort to detect and dismantle terrorist networks.

In recent months, Punjab has seen an increase in counter-terrorism operations in response to intelligence warnings about potential militant activity. Mianwali, situated in northwestern Punjab, has been identified by security analysts as an area of concern due to its proximity to regions where militant groups have previously been active.

Analysts note that targeted, intelligence-based actions such as the Kundian operation are essential in reducing the risk of attacks on both civilians and security personnel. These operations aim to disrupt threats before they can be carried out, seizing weapons and weakening organisational structures of militant cells.

As the search for the six remaining suspects continues, security has been heightened in and around Mianwali to prevent any retaliatory action. The CTD has reiterated that operations will continue across Punjab, with a focus on eliminating illegal weapons caches and neutralising organised militant activity before it escalates.
