The Punjab government has announced revised school timings for public educational institutions, effective August 15, 2025, following the summer vacation, to streamline operations and address logistical needs.

Lahore, Pakistan – The Government of Punjab issued a notification on July 30, 2025, outlining revised school timings for all public educational institutions across the province, as reported by the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP). Effective from August 15, 2025, when schools reopen after the summer break, the new schedule aims to optimize academic operations while accommodating weather conditions and logistical demands. The School Education Department (SED) directive ensures a structured return to learning for millions of students across Punjab’s public schools.

For single-shift schools, the SED has set operating hours from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, with an early closure at 11:30 AM on Fridays to respect prayer times. Double-shift schools will follow a split schedule: the morning shift mirrors single-shift timings, running from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM (Monday to Thursday) and concluding at 11:30 AM on Fridays. The evening shift will operate from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, and from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM on Fridays. The SED emphasized that District Education Authority (DEA) Chief Executive Officers must enforce compliance, with a 15-minute adjustment allowance for boys’ and girls’ schools on a case-by-case basis, as noted in a related notification from October 2024.

The revised timings, announced ahead of the academic reopening, address concerns about extreme weather and aim to enhance teacher and student efficiency. The SED’s directive, shared via www.schools.punjab.gov.pk, follows consultations with educational authorities to balance operational needs with Punjab’s climatic and cultural realities. The policy aligns with prior adjustments, such as those in March 2025, which set school hours from 8:30 AM to ensure better time management, according to Rozana Spokesman.

This move underscores the Punjab government’s focus on practical educational reforms, prioritizing student welfare and administrative efficiency. Parents and educators can access further details through the SED’s official portal or by contacting local DEAs, ensuring a smooth transition as the 2025-26 academic year begins.
