Sindh Govt Prioritizes Media Support, Says Memon

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized the Sindh government’s commitment to supporting the media industry during a luncheon honoring journalists from the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) in Karachi.

On August 2, 2025, Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, hosted a grand luncheon at a Karachi hotel to honor journalists led by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), as reported by Associated Press of Pakistan (APP). The event, attended by provincial minister Saeed Ghani and Sindh government spokespersons including Sumeta Afzal Syed and Ganhwar Khan Isran, underscored the government’s dedication to fostering a media-friendly environment. Memon reiterated that supporting the media industry remains a top priority, emphasizing the enforcement of minimum wage laws in media houses and ensuring journalists’ welfare. He highlighted that Sindh’s hospitals provide free treatment to all Pakistani citizens, including journalists, who receive immediate care in emergencies at top facilities, according to APP.

During the luncheon, Memon presented traditional Sindhi cultural items, Ajrak and Topi, to the guests, symbolizing respect for the media’s role. Mazhar Abbas, a senior journalist, praised the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Sindh government for never pressuring journalists on news coverage, stating that the party’s strength lies in its grassroots support from workers, students, and farmers’ unions, per Daily Times. Memon further noted the government’s broader initiatives, such as merit-based recruitment for 93,000 vacancies in the Sindh Education Department and a massive housing project for 2.1 million homes, as part of efforts to serve the public without political bias. He also referenced recent diplomatic developments, which he described as a matter of national pride, as cited by APP.

The event highlighted the Sindh government’s proactive stance on media freedom and welfare. Memon stressed that the government has implemented measures like the Sindh Commission for the Protection of Journalists to safeguard journalists’ rights, a model now considered for national adoption, according to Daily Times. The gathering, attended by journalist union leaders from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Sindh, reflected a unified commitment to responsible journalism and public awarenes
