Terrorists Attack Police, FC Checkposts

Terrorists launched a series of coordinated attacks on four police and Frontier Corps (FC) checkposts in the Lal Qila area of Maidan, Lower Dir district, late Wednesday night. Security forces responded with strong retaliation, forcing the assailants to retreat.

According to police sources in Lower Dir, the targeted posts were joint police and FC positions located in Sarlara, Lal Qila, Kohiray, and Gumbat Banda. The attackers used heavy firearms and launched their assault at different times throughout the night, resulting in an intense exchange of fire that lasted for several hours.

During the assault, one FC personnel, Naik Shakoor, sustained injuries. He was immediately moved to a nearby hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.

Security personnel stationed at the checkposts retaliated effectively, compelling the attackers to flee the scene. The area has since been cordoned off, and a search operation was launched to locate and apprehend the fleeing assailants. However, no arrests have been confirmed so far.

This is the second such incident in recent days. Two nights prior to Wednesday’s assault, terrorists targeted the Zimdara Gul police post in the same Maidan region. In that attack, an Elite Force member was injured during the gunfire.

Law enforcement agencies are continuing efforts to secure the area and prevent further attacks. The motive behind the assaults has not yet been officially confirmed, and no group has claimed responsibility at this time.

Officials have assured that additional security measures are being implemented in vulnerable regions, particularly in Lower Dir, which has seen a resurgence in militant activity in recent months.

The latest incidents have raised concerns among local communities, especially as coordinated attacks on law enforcement agencies suggest a renewed operational capability among militant groups. However, authorities maintain that the security forces are fully prepared to counter such threats and will continue their operations against hostile elements.
