TTAP Calls All Parties Conference to Navigate Pakistan’s Political and Constitutional Crisis

The Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Pakistan (TTAP) coalition, led by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, has announced an All Parties Conference (APC) scheduled for July 31 and August 1, 2025, in Islamabad. The gathering aims to address Pakistan’s escalating political and constitutional crisis, focusing on the restoration of democratic norms and constitutional order.

At a press conference on July 24, 2025, Achakzai emphasized the APC’s purpose to confront constitutional violations and political repression. He described the conference, to be held at Islamabad’s Legend Hotel, as an opportunity for a serious national dialogue to navigate the country out of its current challenges. Achakzai stressed a commitment to non-violent, principled action and called for the establishment of a neutral Election Commission to ensure free and fair elections. He also criticized the ruling coalition’s “brute force” tactics against opposition parties.

The announcement comes amid ongoing political turmoil, including controversies surrounding the 2024 elections, which were criticized for restrictions on political freedoms. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, detained since 2023, is facing multiple trials under conditions his legal team has described as violations of due process, including limited access to legal counsel and solitary confinement. TTAP members, including former Pakistan Peoples Party senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, have invited all marginalized and oppressed groups to participate in the APC. Economic issues such as rising sugar prices have also been cited as part of the broader challenges facing the country.

Pakistan’s constitutional crisis, rooted in a history of military interventions and political instability—including the removal of Imran Khan in 2022—has been exacerbated by delayed provincial elections and concerns over judicial activism. The planned APC and a subsequent protest on August 5 demonstrate the opposition’s determination to challenge the government through peaceful and democratic means.

The APC represents a pivotal moment for Pakistan’s opposition to unify around principles of democracy and rule of law. By encouraging dialogue among diverse political actors, the coalition seeks to promote political stability and respect for the popular mandate, opposing governance through coercion.
