A deadly gun battle broke out in the Dazha Ghundai area of Lower South Waziristan, resulting in the deaths of several individuals, including the brother of a local tribal elder. The incident has raised fresh concerns over ongoing militant activity in the region.

According to local sources, the violence began when armed militants intercepted two brothers of Malik Ashiq Noor, a well-known tribal elder, as they were returning from Wana Bazaar. The assailants reportedly attempted to seize their weapons. When the brothers resisted, a confrontation ensued. One of the brothers quickly contacted nearby supporters, prompting a rapid response and leading to an extended exchange of gunfire.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as both sides used small arms and heavy weapons, with gunfire continuing for several hours. The clash reportedly spread fear throughout the area, forcing residents to remain indoors.

One of Malik Ashiq’s brothers, Zahid Noor, was killed instantly during the shootout. His other brother, Mola Noor, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana. Hospital officials later confirmed the arrival of two additional injured individuals, both women who were reported to be in stable condition.

Unverified reports suggest that multiple militants were also killed during the incident, including a local commander. The attackers are also believed to have set several vehicles ablaze before fleeing the scene.

The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, although initial suspicions point toward a targeted assault on the tribal elder’s family due to ongoing tensions in the area. Security forces have not issued an official statement, but an inquiry into the event is reportedly underway.

Local elders and community members have condemned the violence and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. “This act of brutality highlights the urgent need for security and peace in our region,” said one elder from a nearby village.

Waziristan, particularly the southern region, has witnessed repeated militant-related incidents in recent years despite ongoing security operations. The incident adds to a growing list of violent episodes raising alarm among tribal communities.

Authorities have called for increased vigilance and community cooperation to prevent further escalations. As investigations continue, the local population remains on edge, with many urging swift justice and enhanced protection from militant threats.
