Pakistan’s security forces have killed 47 terrorists in a large-scale, intelligence-based operation conducted along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, according to an official statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The two-day offensive targeted militant hideouts in the Sambaza area of Zhob District, a region that has seen repeated infiltration attempts from across the border.

ISPR confirmed that 33 of the terrorists, referred to as khwarij (a term historically used for extremists opposing legitimate authority), were eliminated in direct combat in Sambaza. The remaining 14 were neutralized in separate engagements during the operation. Officials stated that the offensive was launched after credible intelligence reports indicated militant movements and planned attacks on security installations.

Following the combat phase, a deliberate sanitization operation was carried out in the surrounding areas to clear any remaining threats and recover weapons, ammunition, and explosive materials. “The clearance operation was essential to ensure the region is secure for local communities and to prevent the re-emergence of terrorist elements,” ISPR noted in its statement.

The Pakistan-Afghanistan border, particularly in Balochistan’s Zhob District, has long been a focal point for security challenges, with militants using the rugged terrain for cross-border infiltration. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly raised concerns over the presence of terrorist networks operating from sanctuaries across the border. Officials maintain that such operations are part of an ongoing strategy to dismantle militant infrastructure and strengthen border security.

The ISPR reaffirmed that the armed forces remain committed to eliminating terrorism in all its forms, regardless of the cost. “Our resolve is unwavering, and such operations will continue until complete peace and stability are restored,” the statement said.

Analysts note that the operation underscores Pakistan’s continued security focus on its western frontier amid a resurgence of militant activity in certain border areas. The targeted approach, relying on intelligence and swift execution, is viewed as critical in countering the threat without prolonged military engagement in civilian-populated zones.

Local residents in the region, while not directly quoted in official reports, have historically expressed support for efforts aimed at restoring stability and curbing terrorist activity that disrupts daily life and economic activity.

Authorities have not released the identities of the eliminated terrorists, but security sources have indicated that some were linked to cross-border networks involved in previous attacks on Pakistani forces.
