Islamabad authorities have finalized a plan to strengthen the capital’s security infrastructure, in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s goal of improving emergency response times and public safety in the city. The initiative includes the expansion of the Safe City Project and increased police patrolling throughout Islamabad.

The plan was formalized during a high-level meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Headquarters, chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Senior officials present included Member Administration & Estate Talat Mahmood, Member Finance Tahir Naeem, Member Environment Asfandyar Baloch, Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, and Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon. The meeting reviewed existing security measures and discussed ways to improve law enforcement coverage in the capital.

Currently, the Safe City Project operates approximately 2,512 Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology. Under the new plan, an additional 3,100 cameras will be installed, raising the total to over 5,600 cameras across Islamabad. These cameras will feature facial recognition capabilities and will be integrated with the Command and Control Centre, enabling real-time monitoring of key locations and improved tracking of suspects.

Muhammad Ali Randhawa stated that the enhanced surveillance network aims to cover blind spots and allow for faster responses to incidents. The additional cameras will be placed at major entry and exit points as well as other strategic areas.

Alongside technological upgrades, the plan includes increased police patrolling, routine snap checks, and improved coordination between departments. New double-cabin vehicles will be deployed to assist with crime prevention and traffic management. The authorities aim to reduce emergency response times to between five and seven minutes through these measures.

The initiative reinforces Islamabad’s ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and law enforcement effectiveness by combining technology with greater police presence. Officials have emphasized the need for comprehensive coverage to deter criminal activity and provide rapid support when needed.
